Hunan University, located in Changsha City, Hunan Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. The school has a long history, originating from Yuelu Academy in 976 AD. It is the longest institution of higher learning in China at the same location. Hunan University is a "double first-class" construction university with strong disciplinary advantages, especially in the fields of chemistry, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, which have been selected into the ranks of world-class discipline construction.
Hunan University has 27 colleges, covering 12 major categories including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, medicine, art and interdisciplinary disciplines. The school has 80 undergraduate majors, 37 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degrees and 30 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees. There are more than 37000 full-time students, including more than 22000 undergraduate students and more than 15000 graduate students.
