Xiamen University, founded in 1921 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader, is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China.

The school adheres to cultivating people with moral integrity and has achieved remarkable results in educating people. Since its founding, it has delivered more than 500,000 outstanding talents to the country. There are more than 46000 students in school, including more than 21000 undergraduate students, more than 19000 master's students, and more than 5700 doctoral students. The school's internal quality assurance system was selected into the UNESCO "Typical Cases of Research on Excellent Principles and Innovative Practices of Internal Quality Assurance in Higher Education", and is the only university selected in China and East Asia.
The school adheres to open education and builds a new pattern of high-level international education. It has signed inter-school cooperation agreements with 270 overseas universities, carried out substantive exchanges and cooperation with 54 world-renowned universities, and took the lead in initiating the establishment of the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" University Alliance.
